A screen on a borrower comes back with a felony conviction. Same name, same state, roughly the right age. Under the old Instant package, that went into your queue exactly as the database returned it, and it was on you to work out whether the record belonged to your borrower or to a stranger. Figuring that out is investigative work. It now happens before the report reaches you.
The entry tier was doing the easy half of the job. Running the searches is the easy half. Working out which results are actually about your subject takes judgment, and we were handing that back to you along with the report.
It also bent how the tiers got used. The fastest way to identify an ambiguous alert was to buy the report above it, which is an expensive way to answer a question about identity rather than about risk.

An investigator now opens flagged results before you do. When a search returns something adverse, whether a criminal record, a sanctions or watchlist match, a judgment, a lien, a bankruptcy, a Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) filing, or adverse media, they confirm it belongs to your subject and suppress the ones that do not.
That costs something, and it is worth being straight about it. Clean reports still come back in minutes, because there is nothing to review. The flagged path is slower than it was, and a report carrying an alert now takes up to two business days. We would rather hand you a finding in two days than a match in two minutes.
The review has a limit. This is identity review, not source verification. Nobody is pulling the underlying court file. That work belongs to Advanced and Deep Dive, where investigators gather records at the source, so if you need the document itself you still need to go up a tier.
Two exceptions. The Business Credit Report releases as it comes back, since a low score is a data point rather than a possible mismatch. And when identity cannot be established at all, the report goes on hold rather than guessing.
This is less about one tier than about what we are willing to put our name on. A report that hands you an unresolved match is asking you to do investigative work yourself, and none of our tiers should be doing that.
So the floor moved. Our entry-level report now includes a person confirming that what it found is real, which is work that used to start a tier up. Advanced and Deep Dive did not shrink to make room. Better diligence at the level you already buy, rather than diligence you have to upgrade to reach.
